Homophobe lands Obama appointment

Does it matter that  President Obama just appointed an out and proud bigot (and global warming denier) a key position in battling the oil spill threatening the Gulf of Mexico?

Jonathan Katz is a Washingon University physicist picked by Obama to help find a solution to the spill.

This is the same man who claimed 'innocent victims' died of AIDS "so the sodomites could feel good about themselves."

He stated "I am a homophobe, and proud," before comparing homosexuals to members of the Ku Klux Klan in his article 'In Defense of Homophobia.'

As for global warming, "[it] is probably good for humanity. Sit back, relax, and watch it happen," he said.

Now, not being physicists we certainly can't counter Katz's credentials in that field, but how can the President  overlook such hateful views of a historically oppressed minority? We know desperate times call for desperate measures, but are the times that desperate?
